Many research technologies are designed to help older adults stay in their homes for as long as possible, but few are tested in real homes for any length of time. The HomeSHARE initiative is a geographically distributed test-bed to design, develop, and evaluate pervasive home-based technologies for aging-in-place.
Initial HomeSHARE Sites
In the first iteration of HomeSHARE, we will establish a core set of 30 homes of older adults in the United States, 15 homes at each of two sites: Bloomington, Indiana (managed by Indiana University) and Denver, Colorado (managed by University of Colorado).
Each HomeSHARE site recruits and maintains 15 homes that have a basic set of technology in each home, called the HomeSHARE Kit. A HomeSHARE kit includes a baseline package of hardware with networking, sensors, storage, and interface components that older adults and researchers can access locally or remotely.
